Data Model Designer (104861)

Working Model: Hybrid (2 days in office)

Location: Mississauga, ON

Where the Chemistry Happens…

As part of BASF’s Data & AI Powerhouse, we as Data Transparency team provide an enterprise-wide Data Catalog solution as single-point of truth to share knowledge about data and to find and access relevant documented data in an efficient, convenient, and compliant way. Our goal is to accelerate business decisions and processes by enabling data citizens to connect data with insights.
As part of an agile team, you will independently drive the development of the Data Catalog by designing, implementing, and maintaining logical and conceptual data models in close collaboration with our business users.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, applications owners, and business users to create data modeling deliverables (e.g., logical data models, data landscapes, etc.) as well as documenting and maintaining them in our central Data Catalog.
  • Challenge the status quo by developing new and adopting existing data modeling standards and guidelines in alignment with industry best practices.
  • Test and evaluate different data modeling tools regarding their functionality, user friendliness and compatibility with our Data Catalog.
  • Support and guide business colleagues in creating logical and conceptual models and enable them to document those models in the Data Catalog.
  • Design training materials for different data modeling use cases and share your knowledge with business colleagues in dedicated training and individual consulting sessions.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Hold a Master’s degree in (business) informatics, computer science, or a related field.
  • Have at least 5 years of experience in analyzing and designing data models, including enterprise models.
  • Possess a solid understanding of data and metadata management processes and principles.
  • Effective communication skills to present complex technical information to non-technical individuals.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking abilities, with the skill to summarize and present alternative designs.
  • Experience with Collibra (or any other data catalog / data governance solution) is required.
  • Proficient in English with excellent communication skills, proactive working approach, and strong customer focus.
