Job Description

Branksome Hall Day Camps (BHDC) will run for 8 weeks, June 23 to August 15, 2025, on weekdays from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Program Area Leads may be required to be available beyond their standard hours to participate in After Care when required or in the event of an emergency or other unexpected and time sensitive situation arises. Camps will not operate on June 30 or August 4 due to holidays.  There may be opportunity for further hours of employment prior to training days to assist with camp and program preparations.  

 

Mandatory Camp Staff Training days will take place on the following dates:

  • Saturday, June 7, 2025, Saturday June 14, 2025 & Monday June 16, 2025 
  • An additional training day in May (date TBD) is required for Program Area Leads
  • Program Area Leads may be required to attend further training, and/or lead sessions at all-staff training

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with preparations and delivery of camp activities, leading those as assigned
  • Actively supervise and engage with all campers during drop-off/pick up, activities, transitions, lunchtime and throughout the entire camp day, with special awareness and attention to health and wellness needs
  • Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, fair play, participation and skill development
  • Assume responsibility for the physical and emotional safety of campers, ensuring comfort and inclusion, and report any concerns or incidents as per camp protocols (completion of incident reports may be required)
  • Be a positive, respectful and effective role model for campers and peers, and same as a representative of BHDC 
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records, such as daily attendance and incident reports 
  • Be creative and adaptable in problem solving through situations, and seek assistance when necessary 
  • Understand, follow, role model and enforce all camp values, goals, policies, safety guidelines and emergency procedures 
  • Use appropriate communications for duration of time on site (i.e. before, during and after camp), as well as maintain open lines of productive communication with families and colleagues 
  • Maintain a clean and safe camp environment 
  • Attend all scheduled meetings and training 
  • Be punctual and organized 
  • Be flexible, as responsibilities and duties may change week to week due to staffing requirements, weekly enrollment and other contributing factors 
  • Perform other duties as assigned  

Qualifications and Experience:

  • R elated training/education, and/or have sufficient experience in the Program Area
  • Preferred candidates will have completed their undergraduate studies
  • Completion of post-graduate studies would be considered an asset
  • Camp experience or experience leading programs for children/youth 
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR certification required before start of camp 
  • High Five Principles of Hea lthy Child Development certification is an asset
  • Strong leadership skills developed through progressively responsible experience in a leadership role 
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to take charge, problem solve and motivate others 
  • Ability to work with and lead a wide variety of ages and demographic groups
