The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Coordinator, Invasive Species, this role is responsible for supporting the Town’s Invasive Species, Forestry, and Horticulture programs. You will work outdoors, assisting in monitoring and managing invasive species across the Town’s parks, woodlots, and streetscapes. As the Student, Invasive Species, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Assist with invasive species monitoring and management activities, including control of plants such as Phragmites and knotweeds
  • Support community stewardship events and early detection monitoring of forest pests
  • Help develop educational materials on invasive species for internal and external communications
  • Assist in urban tree inventory and related horticultural tasks
  • Ensure safe and efficient work practices while maintaining a focus on environmental stewardship

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a motivated student working towards a degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field, and who is returning to school in Fall 2025.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated interest in environmental conservation, with experience in invasive species control or urban forestry an asset. We are seeking an individual with superior communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, and excellent customer service skills.

 

The successful candidate for Student, Invasive Species will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, outdoors, and after hours (as required).

 

This position offers an hourly rate of $20.33.

 

Satisfactory proof of schooling or return to school, may be requested.
