Senior Analyst, Merchandising: 1020065
PURPOSE OF JOB
Responsible for all levels of analysis within Merchandising area, this includes data collection, reporting, interpretation and making recommendations to support the business and improve profitability. Develop consistent and easily updatable reporting tools that are used in making key decisions. Also be involved in supporting key projects within the business. Streamline and automate reports and create new ones from scratch as business needs evolve and be able to creatively find ways to measure category performance.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop reporting tools – 40%:
Develop and build reports from the CMIS database using SQL while working closely with end users to make sure their needs are met.
Analyze business requirements and build systemic reporting tools that can be scaled and automated for other users to take over.
Build and maintain promotional sales reporting model and backing infrastructure that will generate promotional sales reports including sales lift, traffic, basket and other metrics.
Customized reports/solutions for both merchandising and departments outside of merchandising.
Continual process improvement required to develop and meet evolving business needs.
Analysis and Recommendations – 30%
Ad hoc reports and analysis
Provide recommendations on pricing as our elasticity model evolves.
Provide price comparisons as needed using tools available (eg. boomerang)
Analyze pricing/margin effects on tests
Work with CM’s to dig into problems/questions that arise and get to underlining issues and define the causes and provide recommendations.
Work closely with Category Mangers on specific projects about business questions to determine the overall cost/benefit to the company and provide analytic based recommendations.
Project support and implementation – 30%:
Develop and deliver value added analysis to support senior manager decision making on merchandising strategy, including areas of inventory, hardware investment and retail pricing.
Support the business on key projects – this includes both project research and design support and in some cases leading projects from design to execution.
Collaborate with I.S. to make sure CMIS continue to meet merchandising requirements and work on enhancements as they are needed for future reports (eg. traffic info)
KNOWLEDGE / SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Highly proficient PC skills especially in Word, Excel, and Access.
Highly proficient with SQL and maybe “R”
Deadline oriented and ability to prioritize multiple tasks/projects.
Ability to gather, interpret, and analyze information from various sources. Use mathematical, computer and analytical skills to formulate recommendations for resolving a variety of problems or issues.
Ability to work independently.
Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS
3-5 years of previous experience in an analytical role.
Business Degree/diploma in mathematics or finance or programming
