Manufacturing Production Worker Program

Opportunities for Employment Inc. (OFE) is working with the Manitoba Government to respond to increasing need for refugee support in Winnipeg.  

 

As part of this initiative, we are expanding our successful award winning demand-led employment program model.  We are currently recruiting for a new project under the Refugee Employment Development Initiative (REDI):

 

MANUFACTURING PRODUCTION WORKER PROGRAM

 

The program has an eight week component at OFE, which includes the following:

• English for Work

• Occupational Specific Essential Skills

• Employment Development

• Canadian Workplace Culture

 

There is an additional component with a local manufacturer with two to four weeks of:

• Work Experience and/or Technical Training followed by job placement

 

Participants will have opportunity to continue improving their English language skills with English for Work programming once employed.

 

Eligible applicants will:

• Have come to Canada as a refugee

• Be receiving RAP or EIA benefits or be at risk for EIA benefits

• Have a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) between 1 - 3

• Be legally entitled to work in Canada

• Be 18 years of age or older

• Be currently unemployed and looking for work

• Be able to attend programming full-time, Monday to Friday between 8:00am & 4:00pm

• Have childcare in place (if applicable)

• Have an interest in working in a manufacturing environment

• Be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and be able to stand for long periods of time

• Have good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination

August 14, 2017

November 13, 2017

Interested applicants should attend an information session at OFE on:

 

July 12, 2017 at 10:00 am

OR

July 13, 2017 at 2:00 pm

Process:

1)      Phone (204) 925-3490 to register for an information session (identify languages spoken and indicate need for an Interpreter if necessary).  Referring agencies, community partners, family and friends of applicants are welcome to phone to register on behalf of applicants.

2)      Attend an Information Session

3)      Complete intake application

4)      Individuals accepted for the program will be notified and given a start date
